Formation & Geological History

Forms through regional metamorphism of clay-rich sediments where chromium is present. Rubies crystallize within the green mica (fuchsite) matrix under high pressure and temperature conditions.

Uses & Applications

Primarily used for lapidary work, ornamental carvings, decorative 'tower' points, and metaphysical collecting.

Geological Facts

It is often confused with Ruby in Zoisite; however, Ruby in Fuchsite is much softer and typically has a blue-white ring of kyanite around the ruby crystals.

Field Identification & Locations

Found commonly in India, Brazil, and Zimbabwe. Identified by the distinct dark red hexagonal ruby spots against a shimmering, flakey green mica background.
