Unakite was first discovered in the Unaka Range of the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina/Tennessee, USA. It is the state rock of Virginia.

Identify by its distinctive 'pistachio green' and 'salmon pink' mottled appearance. It lacks the typical foliated structure of most metamorphic rocks, resembling granite but with a high green epidote content. Common in the Appalachian Mountains and glacial till near the Great Lakes.
