Formation & geological history
Flower Agate is formed through the accumulation of silica-rich groundwater in cavities of igneous rock. The unique 'flower' patterns are actually 3D plume-like inclusions of opaque Chalcedony or Spherulitic inclusions. It is a relatively recent find from Madagascar.
Uses & applications
Primarily used for lapidary work including decorative points (towers), spheres, palm stones, jewelry, and by collectors for its unique aesthetic and metaphysical associations.
Geological facts
Flower Agate was first discovered around 2017-2018 in Madagascar. It is famous for its 'seeds' and 'blossom' patterns which resemble flowers frozen in time inside the translucent pinkish stone.
Field identification & locations
Identify by its translucent body combined with opaque, white, blossom-like circular inclusions. In the field, look for volcanic host rocks in Madagascar. Collectors should look for a lack of air bubbles (which indicates glass) and a cool touch with high hardness.
