The name 'Aventurine' comes from the Italian 'a ventura', meaning 'by chance', originally referring to Venetian aventurine glass (goldstone) which was discovered accidentally before the natural mineral was named after it.
Field identification & locations
Look for a granular quartz texture combined with light green coloration and shimmering mica flecks when turned in light. Commonly found in India, Brazil, Russia, and South Africa. Easily identified by hardness (scratches glass) and distinctive green glitter.
