Formation & Geological History
The base material is natural quartz, formed in hydrothermal veins. The iridescent coating is created via 'Chemical Vapor Deposition' (CVD) in a vacuum chamber, where quartz is heated and bonded with titanium and other metallic oxides.
Uses & Applications
Primarily used for decorative purposes, metaphysical collecting, and jewelry making.
Geological Facts
This is a 'man-enhanced' mineral; while the quartz is real, the rainbow colors are not natural. It is sometimes marketed as Flame Aura or Rainbow Aura quartz.
Field Identification & Locations
Can be identified by the intense, metallic rainbow sheen that covers the crystal faces. Natural quartz does not exhibit this level of chromatic iridescence unless it is treated or contains specific inclusions like hematite/limonite (Goethite), which look much more subtle.
