Formation & geological history
Forms primarily in core zones of pegmatites at high temperatures during the late stages of magmatic crystallization. Pink color is caused by microscopic inclusions of a fibrous pink borosilicate mineral related to dumortierite.

Unlike clear quartz, rose quartz rarely forms well-defined crystal faces and usually occurs in large, translucent massive forms. It can exhibit asterism (star effect) when cut into cabochons.
