Formation & geological history
Forms mainly in pegmatites and hydrothermal veins, and occasionally in metamorphic rocks. The pink color is generally attributed to microscopic trace amounts of titanium, iron, or manganese, or fibrous inclusions of dumortierite.

Geological facts
Unlike crystalline quartz which often forms distinct point crystals, rose quartz typically occurs in massive, amorphous forms. Fine-grained translucent material can sometimes display asterism (a star effect) when cut as a cabochon.

Easily identified by its distinctive pink coloration and massive habit. It is found globally, with significant deposits in Brazil, Madagascar, South Africa, and the USA (South Dakota).
