Quartz Arenite / Weathered Sandstone
Hardness of 6-7 on the Mohs scale for the quartz grains. Color ranges from gray-brown externally due to weathering and lichen, to a vibrant orange-yellow internally where iron oxidation has occurred. Luster is dull to earthy. Granular texture composed predominantly of sand-sized mineral particles or rock fragments.
