Unakite was first discovered in the Unaka Range of North Carolina, USA, from which it gets its name. It is the state rock of Virginia.
Field identification & locations
Identify by the distinct mottled green and pink patches. It is commonly found in river beds and lake shores, particularly in the Blue Ridge Mountains of the USA and the shores of Lake Superior inside glacial drift.
