Formation & Geological History

Kambaba Jasper is a fossilized sedimentary rock, specifically a form of stromatolite containing cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) fossils. These are some of the oldest known life forms on Earth, dating back over 3 billion years to the Archean Eon.

Uses & Applications

Primarily used in the lapidary arts for jewelry (pendants, beads), ornamental carvings, heart-shaped pocket stones, and decorative home decor.

Geological Facts

Despite being called 'Jasper', it is technically an exotic fossilized stromatolite. It is often confused with Nebula Stone or Rhyolite, but its unique orbicular patterns of fossilized algae are distinct.

Field Identification & Locations

Look for deep green bases with black, eye-like or swirling orbicular patterns. It is predominantly found in the west-central region of Bongolava in Madagascar.
