AI Identification Disclaimer

What Rock Identifier’s AI can and can’t do — and what you agree to when you use it.

  1. 01.No guarantees

Rock Identifier uses artificial intelligence to identify rocks, minerals, and geological specimens from photographs. We make no guarantees, representations, or warranties — express or implied — about the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any identification, description, or estimate produced by the service.

  2. 02.AI limitations

AI models can make mistakes, misinterpret visual features, or produce inaccurate results (commonly referred to as “hallucinations”). The AI may identify the wrong rock or mineral altogether, misstate physical properties, or describe formation history, localities, or uses incorrectly. Photographs alone are often insufficient to distinguish visually similar specimens — many minerals cannot be reliably told apart without physical testing.

  3. 03.User responsibility

You are solely responsible for how you use identification results. Always verify important details independently — through physical testing, reference materials, or a qualified geologist or gemologist — before relying on an identification for any decision.

  4. 04.Not safety advice

Identifications must not be used to determine whether a specimen is safe to handle, inhale dust from, taste, or ingest, or whether it is radioactive, asbestiform, or otherwise hazardous. Treat unknown specimens with appropriate caution regardless of what the AI reports.

  5. 05.Not professional advice

Nothing produced by Rock Identifier constitutes geological consulting, gemological certification, mining or prospecting advice, or any other form of professional advice. Any value ranges shown are rough, AI-generated estimates for general interest only — they are not appraisals and should not be used for buying, selling, insurance, tax, estate, legal, or lending purposes.

  6. 06.User-provided information

Identifications may rely on photographs, field notes, and location details submitted by users. We do not verify user-provided information, and results that depend on it may be affected by its accuracy.

  7. 07.Community content

Public identifications shared to the community gallery are AI-generated content submitted by other users. They carry the same limitations described here and have not been reviewed by experts.

  8. 08.Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Rock Identifier and its affiliates will not be liable for any loss or damage arising from reliance on AI-generated identifications, descriptions, or estimates, including financial loss, property damage, or personal injury.

  9. 09.Changes to this disclaimer

We may update this disclaimer from time to time. Continued use of the service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated disclaimer. By using Rock Identifier, you acknowledge and accept these limitations.
