- How accurate is AI rock identification from a photo?
- It is a strong first guess, not a lab test. Many minerals look alike, and a photo cannot show hardness, streak, or density. Treat the result as a starting point and verify important identifications with physical tests or a geologist.
- What kind of photo works best?
- Natural daylight, a plain background, the specimen filling most of the frame, and a sharp focus on its texture. If the rock has a fresh broken surface or a visible crystal face, photograph that side.
- Can it identify gemstones, crystals, and fossils?
- Yes. Raw rocks, tumbled stones, cut gems, crystals, fossils, and meteorites are all in scope. Man-made materials such as glass, ceramic, and concrete are flagged as not a rock.
