Geological facts

The 'petals' are actually flattened crystals occurring in radiating clusters. They are found in many deserts, with famous specimens coming from the Sahara and the Southwestern United States.

Identify by its unique rose-like shape and sandy texture. It is very brittle and will dissolve if left in water for extended periods. Commonly found in dry lake beds or salt flats.
