Natural quartz forms in igneous pegmatites or hydrothermal veins. This specimen has been tumbled and subjected to a dyeing process where dye is forced into micro-fractures of the stone.

Geological facts
The intense, uniform electric blue color is not found naturally in bulk quartz. If you soak this stone in acetone or alcohol, the blue color will often begin to bleed off, revealing the white or clear natural quartz underneath.
Field identification & locations
Identify by looking for 'spider-web' patterns of darker color where the dye has pooled in internal cracks. Natural blue quartz (like Dumortierite quartz) is typically a much duller, grayish-blue.
