Formation & geological history
Formed through the intrusion of hydrothermal fluids containing copper into cracks and pores within a granite pluton, creating secondary azurite crystals within the host rock.

Geological facts
Despite often being called K2 Jasper, it is not actually jasper; it is a unique combination of granite and azurite found only near the base of the K2 mountain in Pakistan, the second-highest mountain in the world.
Field identification & locations
Easily identified by the striking contrast of round, vibrant blue azurite spots embedded in a grey and white speckled granite background. Sourced mainly from the Karakoram mountain range in northern Pakistan.
