Orange Calcite (likely polished specimen)

Calcite is a common and widely distributed mineral, composed of calcium carbonate (CaCO3). Orange calcite gets its color from inclusions of iron.

Sedimentary and Metamorphic. Calcite is a primary component of limestone and marble, which are sedimentary and metamorphic rocks, respectively. It can form through biological processes, precipitation from supersaturated solutions, or recrystallization under heat and pressure.

It is not typically used for industrial purposes due to its softness. It is often carved into ornamental objects, spheres, or used in jewelry. It is also believed to have metaphysical properties in crystal healing. Historically, larger deposits of limestone (composed primarily of calcite) have been used as a building material.

Orange calcite is known for its vibrant orange color and is often carved into decorative items or tumbled stones. It exhibits perfect rhombohedral cleavage. Like all calcites, it will effervesce (fizz) when a drop of dilute hydrochloric acid is applied to it.
