Geological facts

Despite its name, it is technically a variety of Labradorite rather than a true Orthoclase Moonstone. The colorful 'flash' it displays is known as labradorescence or adularescence.

Field identification & locations

Identify by rotating the stone under light to see a blue or rainbow flash. Often contains black tourmaline (schorl) inclusions, as seen in this specimen. Commonly found in India, Sri Lanka, and Madagascar.
