Geological facts
Sodalite is often confused with Lapis Lazuli, but it lacks the golden pyrite inclusions common in Lapis. It was discovered in Greenland in 1811 but became popular after large deposits were found in Ontario, Canada in 1891.
Field identification & locations
Identified by its distinctive royal blue color and characteristic white streaks of calcite. It is found in significant quantities in Brazil, Canada (Bancroft), Namibia, and Russia. Collectors value deep blue specimens with high saturation.
