Geological facts

The optical shimmering effect seen in sunstone is called aventurescence or schiller, caused by tiny reflective platelets of hematite, goethite, or metallic copper within the feldspar lattice. Oregon Sunstone, which contains micro-copper inclusions, is the official state gemstone of Oregon.
