Geological facts
Unakite was first discovered in the Unaka Mountains of western North Carolina, which is where it gets its name. It is commonly found as glacial erratics and stream pebbles in regions glaciated during the Ice Age, fitting well with the geographic region provided near Lake Michigan.
Field identification & locations
Easily identified by its characteristic striking combination of pink feldspar and pistachio-green epidote. Often found as rounded pebbles along gravel bars, beaches, and glacial till deposits.
