Formation & geological history
Formed when silica-rich hydrothermal fluids filled gas cavities (vesicles) in igneous basaltic lava flows. Layers of microcrystalline chalcedony deposited sequentially along cavity walls, followed by macroscopic quartz crystal growth in the remaining hollow center.
