Despite its name, no deposits of amazonite have ever been found in the Amazon River basin; the green stones found there were likely nephrite jade or similar minerals mistakenly identified by early explorers.

Easily identified by its characteristic bright green-blue color and grid-like white streaks (albite twinning). Found in the USA, Russia, Brazil, Madagascar, and Austria. Collectors look for vibrant saturation.
