Formed within cavities in volcanic basalt flows through hydrothermal activity where hot fluids rich in minerals crystallized. Found almost exclusively in the Dominican Republic, particularly in the Barahona province, dating back to Miocene volcanic activity.

Geological facts

Also known as the 'Atlantis Stone', larimar was discovered in its modern form in 1974 by a Peace Corps volunteer and a local Dominican, though locals knew of it before. Its unique ocean-like patterns make it one of the most distinctive blue gemstones in the world.
