Formation & geological history
Formed predominantly in core zones of pegmatites at high temperatures during late-stage igneous crystallization. Pink coloration is caused by microscopic inclusions of fibrous silicate minerals (related to dumortierite).

Geological facts
Unlike transparent macrocrystalline quartz crystals, rose quartz rare forms well-defined crystal faces and almost always occurs in massive, translucent aggregates. Exposure to prolonged direct sunlight can cause its soft pink color to fade over time.
Field identification & locations
Identified by its characteristic pale pink hue, glassy luster, and hardness of 7 (scratches glass). Commonly found in Brazil, Madagascar, South Africa, and the Black Hills of South Dakota, USA.
