Formation & geological history

Formed mainly in pegmatites through late-stage igneous crystallization at high temperatures, with its delicate pink color caused by microscopic inclusions of dumortierite or trace amounts of titanium, iron, or manganese. Found worldwide in granitic pegmatites.

Uses & applications

Widely used in lapidary work for carvings, beads, cabochons, and decorative stones. Very popular among mineral collectors and in metaphysical/healing crystal communities.

Geological facts

Unlike standard quartz crystals, rose quartz rarely forms well-defined crystal faces and is almost always found in large, rough, translucent masses. True crystal specimens of pink quartz are exceptionally rare and distinct from typical mass rose quartz.

Field identification & locations

Identified by its distinctive light pink hue, glass-like luster, lack of cleavage, and ability to easily scratch glass (hardness 7). Commonly found in pegmatite-rich regions like Brazil, Madagascar, South Africa, and South Dakota, USA.
