Formed when Quartz replaces fibrous Crocidolite (blue asbestos) through a process of pseudomorphism, where the original mineral's fibrous shape is preserved but replaced by silica.

Geological facts
The optical effect called chatoyancy is caused by reflections from the mineral's parallel fibrous structure. It is believed by some cultures to provide protection and insight to the wearer.

Identify by the distinct 'moving' golden bands when rotated under light. Commonly found in South Africa, Australia, Burma, and India. Look for a silky luster and parallel banding.
