Geological facts

Unakite was first discovered in the Unaka Mountains of western North Carolina, from which it derives its name. It often contains quartz grains mixed with pink orthoclase and green epidote.

Field identification & locations

Easily identified visually by its distinctive pink and pistachio-green color combination. Commonly found in glacial drift derived from granitic terranes, such as the Blue Ridge Mountains in the US and various European localities.
