Unakite was first discovered in the Unaka Mountains of North Carolina, from which it gets its name. It is a popular lapidary material due to its striking pink and green contrast.

Easily identified visually by its distinctive speckled mosaic of green epidote and pink orthoclase feldspar. Commonly found in glacial drift derived from granite regions, as well as in the Blue Ridge Mountains of the USA, South Africa, Brazil, and China.
